Hurry up and wait

Good news is that we are in Ethiopia safely with all of our luggage. Bad news is that we are still not to our final destination. Our flights to Washington DC went well. We had a three hour layover and then boarded our plane, excitedly, at 7:45pm eastern time. A little after 1am, we were still on the ground due to a part that needed to be replaced in the air conditioner. But, when we finally took off, we had already eaten dinner and several snacks, so they didn't bother us and we slept most of the way to Rome. After a short stop to change crews, we headed on to Addis Ababa. Most passengers traveling with us were Ethiopian (whether living in the US or just visiting) with the rest soon-to-be adoptive parents and then us. All of the overhead announcements were in Amharic and then repeated in English. What was supposed to be a 14 hr flight turned to 19 hrs, and we obviously missed our connecting flight from Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar. After going from line to line (Visa, immigration, baggage carousel, customs, then several lines to find out what to do about our flight), we were sent on a bus to a complimentary hotel with complimentary internet (which is why you are getting this intermediate update)! We will be able to sleep about 2 hours before the bus comes back to take us for our early morning flight to Bahir Dar. We are very thankful for a place to stretch out our legs!
